Rainy day and a Review

Review

Today’s review from my blog list is P2S. Before I tell you what it’s about and add the link, I’d like to introduce it somewhat.

It is a different kind of site from the usual ones I have listed here. For one, it is a forum and not a blog. For another, it’s what is known as a ‘prepper’ site, but please hear me out before you run a mile. The term ‘prepper’ has received a lot of bad press, mainly because preppers in the States are known in the media for stock piling guns, ammunition and other weapons. But this is absolutely NOT what this prepper site is about.

Prepping, or being prepared, is as old as the Boy Scouts (it’s their motto, in case any have forgotten). When we are going on holiday, we prepare for it by checking the weather and packing what we think is most suitable. If we live in an area where flooding is common, we make sure we have the necessary equipment on hand, or know where to find it. In America, people are prepared for earthquakes and hurricanes. There is a LOT more to being prepared than simply accumulating weapons! In fact, most preppers don’t have weapons at all – that’s all the hype from the media trying to force governments to ban guns of all descriptions.

So, having said what it is not, let me introduce you to the P2S site; its proper name is Prepared 2 Survive and is subtitled 'UK Survival and Self-Reliance Forums'. You can find it at:  http://www.p2snetwork.co.uk/

If you sign up, you will have to make an introduction first, telling people where you found the site and why you want to be there. Once you have joined, you can then see all the boards available. If you fail to post, you will be classed as a ‘lurker’ and will eventually be deleted from the list.

You will find subject matter ranging from chicken keeping, to gardening, to renovation projects, to smallholding, to EDC and BOBs (you’ll have to join up to find out what those are, if you are not already familiar with the terms). There are people who do bushcraft, know country lore and country ways, they go for walks and report on what they have found; they know what mushrooms are safe to eat and which will kill you if you try them. Of course, there is the inevitable section about what you might need in the case of a disaster too, such as a flood, or war, or anything in between. What's more, the site is British!

My personal view is that this is the best site on the subject of being prepared. It does not indulge in scaremongering, it isn’t about the ‘zombie apocalypse’, but it does help assist you in being more prepared for any eventuality. I love it! I don’t post very often, but I have learned a lot from the subject matter contained in it. And it offers a community and a platform for discussing any and all issues related to being prepared. I have found many likeminded people who want to live sustainably and have less of an impact on our planet.

How does it gel with the subject of my blog? Well, it has places for discussing smallholding, food, water (eg when there is a hosepipe ban, or the water or electricity is turned off), alternative sources of energy, gardening for food, sustainability and so on. Why not take a look and give it a try?
